“Is not this the kind of fasting I have
chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free
and break every yoke?
Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—
when you see the naked, to clothe them,
and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
Then your light will break forth like the dawn,
and your healing will quickly appear;
then your righteousness will go before you,
and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.
Then you will call, and the LORD will answer;
you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I."
Isaiah 58:6-9
RAGs are a deliberate act of mission-shaped worship.
RAGs used to stand for RANDOM ACTS of GRACE where a crack team of faithful St D's members would head out on a Sunday evening seeking to bless the local community in very practical ways - painting a room here, clearing a garden there and even walking the odd dog.
Inspired by this example, RAGs is being embraced by the whole church as a normal expression of our Christian walk and worship. At the same time it is becoming less Random and more REGULAR, RADICAL... REVOLUTIONARY even.
We are seeking to partner with local charities, service providers and other groups so that we can play our part in reaching out to our community with God's love. for some this will mean helping out at a centre for the homeless, for others donating food to the local Foodbank helping to feed the "hidden hungry in our local area.
Here are a list of organisations we are partnering with at the moment (or hope to in the near future). To find out more or get involved do contact Will: will@stdionis.org.uk
Hammersmith and Fulham Foodbank provide food for those falling through the gaps in our benefits system, there are a number of ways to get involved from buying food to distributing it or organising collections at your local supermarket.
Cassidy Medical Centre, one of our local surgeries, is now being run by new management seeking actvely to promote health rather than focusing solely on sickness. Our involvement in helping those with the challenge of new children, isolated by old age or carrying the burden of unemployment or debt will prevent some of the key causes of poor health.
Bishop Creighton House rally volunteers to befriend and care for the elderly and vulnerable in our neighbourhood. This can happen on an individual basis, but we are also looking into ways that groups of people may be able to get involved.
West London Churches Homeless Concern have welcomed a small group of volunteers from St D's to help out at their weekly dinners and bring friendship and support to their valued guests.
"...I was a bit nervous at first but taking part in the RAG was actually very easy. It was so good to be able to really bless someone in our local community and we all had a lot of fun at the same time...."
